Training in Yin Yoga, Aromatherapy & Emotional Intelligence: The Journey

By Anna Caldwell

What is it like training in Yin Yoga, Emotional Intelligence and Aromatherapy? How can these bring your teaching to a deeper, more impactful level? How can aromatherapy amplify the mental, physical and spiritual benefits of a Yin Yoga practice?

When we take the time to slow down and enter into a space of yin, there are many changes one can experience. Among these is cultivating a deeper understanding of ourselves and the stories in our minds that construct our reality. Perhaps, too, a greater sense of non-reactivity to the world around us as we operate more and more from a space of peace and calm. By studying emotional intelligence, we can lean towards more conscious responses in our life rather than reacting blindly. Through the power of Yin Yoga, we learn to recognize and manage emotions within ourselves and in turn, guide our students towards tapping into the natural intelligence of this body dimension.

Aromatherapy, then, is a wonderful tool to this end. In the Yin Yoga space, this primarily means the mindful use of essential oils and aromatic plants to deepen the experience for your students and support emotional well-being. Essential Oils are extracted compounds of plants and usually steam-distilled to produce pure, concentrated essences of the plants. In this course, we learn all about what essential oils really are from how they are made, to why plants even produce these oils and what all of these means for the biology and experience of the human body in Yin Yoga and beyond.

Aromatherapy is an ancient and natural medicine that has been in spiritual practices, rituals, indigenous ceremonies and for medicinal purposes for thousands of years. Plants are a powerful ally on our journey to healing and an amazing way to enhance a Yin Yoga Class. Essential Oils have the power to boost our immune systems by fortifying our body’s natural defense systems, they can treat headaches and other ailments, relieve stress and anxiety, cure energy imbalances, improve sleep and generally elevate our mood and sense of well-being. Essential Oils are some of the most potent natural healing agents on Earth. This course is all about fusing these benefits with the benefits of Yin Yoga while creating profound experiences for your students.

Another important component of this course is how to teach responsibly with essential oils and how to curate a space safely when bringing aromatherapy into the mix. The student gains practical experience holding space for others mentally, emotionally and energetically in a safe way. Included is communication, propping with essential oils, sequencing and all of the components that go into making you a confident, empowered Yin Yoga teacher.

In this course, we learn how to use specific essential oils to compliment the practice, why we are using them, the science behind how they function and, most importantly, how to use essential oils safely and effectively. These plant allies, or “little bottles of nature’s magic” as we like to call them, really do bring a new depth into the classroom. These disciplines have the potential to take you and your students to a new level you hadn’t previously thought possible.
